Nagpur police have arrested Sameera (Samira) Fatima, a 35‑year‑old school teacher, accused of marrying at least eight men over a 15‑year period and extorting large sums—from several lakhs per victim—through social media and matrimonial websites.

Modus operandi and deception techniques

Fatima reportedly used platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and matrimonial sites to build trust. She allegedly posed as a divorced mother in need, crafted emotional narratives, and targeted mostly married and wealthy Muslim men. After marriage, she blackmailed victims with threats of legal consequences unless paid large amounts—including ₹50 lakh in at least one case.

Sting operation and arrest

She was arrested in a staged police operation at Dolly ki Tapri in Civil Lines, Nagpur, as she was meeting what investigators believed to be her ninth victim. Her latest husband reportedly cooperated with authorities to help entrap her.

Social and criminal context

Police investigations suggest Fatima was part of a broader criminal gang specializing in matrimonial fraud. The case highlights the vulnerabilities in matrimonial platforms and social networks, where minimal verification can enable prolonged exploitation.
