When a Monkey Showered Rupees in Auraiya: A Bizarre Day at the Tehsil

Unexpected Rainfall: Monkey Sprinkles ₹80,000 in Auraiya Tehsil

Imagine heading to the tehsil office for routine paperwork, only to find yourself dodging falling banknotes instead of paperwork! That was the surreal scene on August 26, 2025, in Bidhuna tehsil, Auraiya district, when a mischievous monkey turned a routine day into a viral spectacle.

What happened—and why it’s unforgettable

On that Tuesday afternoon, a private tutor from Dondapur village named Rohitash Chandra reached the Bidhuna tehsil for a land document appointment. He had about ₹80,000 in cash tucked away in the cloth-lined trunk (diggi) of his motorcycle. Unexpectedly, a playful monkey appeared out of nowhere, opened his bike's trunk, grabbed the bundle of ₹500 notes, and scampered up a nearby tree. In a whimsical turn, the monkey started flinging the notes into the air, creating a literal "rain" of banknotes over the tehsil compound.

The crowd and the cash

As notes fluttered through the air, amazed onlookers lunged to scoop them up. It wasn't long before Rohitash realized his money had gone airborne and appealed to the crowd to return whatever they could. Remarkably, out of the ₹80,000, about ₹52,000 was handed back to him thanks to the honesty of the locals—yet ₹28,000 remained unaccounted for.

Why this went viral—and what it tells us

The event quickly became a hit on social media—not just for its absurdity, but also for the humanity it revealed. People joke that only in India would you see “monkey-caused rain of money,” and yet, even then, a significant portion of the money was returned. That blend of chaos, humor, and compassion is what made the video resonate across the country
