Jhalawar School Roof Collapse: 7 Children Killed | झालावाड़ स्कूल छत गिरने से 7 बच्चों की मौत

On July 25, 2025, at around 7:40 AM, a classroom ceiling collapsed at the Government Upper Primary School in Piplodi village, Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, killing seven students and injuring 21–28 others during morning prayers.

Cause and Warnings Ignored

Heavy rainfall in prior days weakened the building. Locals had warned officials about seepage and structural damage, but no action was taken. Students had even told a teacher about falling bricks, but were told to remain seated, moments before the collapse happened.

Casualties & Rescue.

Seven children, aged between 7 and 13 from Piplodi and nearby Chandpura, lost their lives. Over twenty others were injured, with ten in critical condition. Rescue began immediately—villagers, parents, teachers and even the local sarpanch joined. Because ambulances were delayed by about 45 minutes, many injured children were ferried to hospitals on motorcycles.

Administrative Response

Education Minister Madan Dilawar accepted moral responsibility and announced suspension of five staff members, including the principal. A high‑level inquiry was ordered. Compensation of ₹10 lakh per deceased child and a government job for a family member was promised. Upcoming classrooms will be named after the deceased. Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje demanded a statewide safety audit of school infrastructure.

Impacts & Infrastructure Concerns

The classroom was built in 1994 and was about 30 years old. Although funds had been allocated for repairs, this building did not figure in the list of unsafe schools submitted by the education department highlighting failures in infrastructure monitoring and maintenance
