Bijapur Blast: Teenager Injured by Naxalite IED

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in an explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The blast happened when he accidentally triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites, a group known for carrying out violent activities in the region. The incident took place in Kondapadgu village, under the Bhopalpattnam police station area, while the boy was grazing cattle in a nearby forest.

Bijapur Blast

According to police reports, the teenager stepped on or came into contact with the IED, which exploded and caused severe injuries to his legs and face. He was quickly taken to the Bijapur district hospital for treatment. Authorities have not shared updates on his current condition, but the injuries are described as serious.

Naxalites often plant IEDs on dirt paths and in forests to target security forces during anti-Naxal operations. However, civilians, including villagers and children, sometimes fall victim to these hidden explosives. The Bastar region, which includes Bijapur, has seen similar incidents in the past, with innocent people getting hurt or killed.

The police have urged people to be cautious when entering forest areas and to report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest police station or security camp immediately. This incident highlights the ongoing threat of Naxalite activities in Chhattisgarh and the dangers faced by local communities.
